CHRIST : THE THEME

IT IS ALL ABOUT HIM

If you were to ask someone; “What is the New Testament ?” They might reply that it is four different accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus. The epistles are letters written from preachers to various church assemblies. That would be a good simple answer.

What if you were to ask someone; “What is the Old Testament ?” They might reply that it is the accumulated literary history of the nation of Israel through the eyes of prophets, teachers, singers, kings, and poets, spanning many years and generations. That would also be a simplistic answer.

But what if you were to ask the Lord Jesus those same questions …. What is the Old Testamet? ….What is the New Testament? How do you think He might answer those questions?

I believe that He would say …. THE BOOK IS ABOUT ME! …. IT IS ALL ABOUT ME!

The Old Testament is about ME!

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. …. And he said unto them, These are the words which I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Luke 24:27,44,45

The New Testament is about ME!

It began with …The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Matt 1:1 And the last book began with …The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Rev 1:1

Jesus told the Pharisees who, having memorized much of the Old Testament scriptures, were well acquainted the Book, yet had failed to see or to hear it. Jesus spoke of their unbelief mixed with their memorizations….. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. John 5:46

We understand that one’s knowing of scriptural content is no guarantee that he or she will see the focus of the Bible…. Both the Old and the New Covenant.

One of the greatest devices of the kingdom of darkness is to allow us the words of God without seeing Christ, ….the Living Word of God. How often do we see the black ink on paper without seeing Him who is the Theme, Focus, and the Eternal Purpose of God. Truly the letter alone does bring spiritual death while the Spirit brings Life.

Yes, this age of specialization has crept into the ministry of the good news so that we focus upon the parts rather than the whole. Each part has its place, but it is not the main thing. Christ Jesus is the Main Thing. Our study of the “text” may have caused us to lose sight of the “person”. We may have focused upon His Truths so much that we have forgotten that … He Is Truth. Truth is a Person. Just as he tried to get Martha to see that the resurrection was more than an event in the future. He said, “I Am the Resurrection and the Life” Joh 11:25
